Claudia’s 2022 Anticipated Reads

Almost a year ago (how? where has time gone?), I put together a collection of my anticipated reads for the beginning of 2021. Included in those seven books are a few of my favorites of the year like Malibu Rising and One Last Stop, which we even featured as gifts in our Queer AF Holiday Bundle.

In order to prepare for a new year full of incredible releases in 2022, I put together a list of 10 books to add to your TBR! Of course, this is not a comprehensive compilation of all of the releases in 2022, but instead ones from my favorite authors or that have caught my eye.

Anticipated Reads

Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez (btw – Xochitl is pronounced (roughly) as soh-chil. Neat right?

Contemporary Fiction- Released January 4, 2022

Described in reviews as “an intersectional feminist anthem” this book will be sure to start 2022 off right with commentary on the American Dream.

To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara

Historical Fiction- Released January 11, 2022

A long awaited new novel from Yanagihara, To Paradise shares a story of an alternate America in three different centuries that connect in the promise of utopia.

Ain’t Burned All the Bright by Jason Reynolds

Young Adult- Released January 11, 2022

A mixed media novel that combines art and text to capture what it is like to be Black in America right now.

Count Your Lucky Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur

Sapphic Romance- Releases in February, 2022

I LOVE Alexandria Bellefleur and all of her queer inclusive romance books. Possibly one of my most anticipated reads of 2022, you can prepare for this new release by reading my interview with Bellefleur herself.

Ophelia After All by Racquel Marie

Young Adult- Releases February 8, 2022

Tagged a “queer delight” by one of FBC’s favorite authors Leah Johnson!

One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle

Contemporary Fiction- Releases March 1, 2022

Always guaranteed to make you feel all of the feelings, Rebecca Serle is back with a moving novel about a mother daughter relationship.

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James

Mystery- Releases March 15, 2022

Simone St. James is one of my favorite mystery and thriller authors and her novel The Broken Girls is one of my most shared books with my friends.

I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston

Young Adult- Releases May 3, 2022

A new Casey McQuiston novel, what more is there to say? Not a great deal has been released about this highly anticipated novel, but if it is anything like Red, White & Royal Blue or One Last Stop, I know I will love it!

Breath and Count Back from Ten by Natalia Sylvester

Young Adult- Releases May 10, 2022

Natalia Sylvester’s Running was one of my favorite books in 2020, so I am ecstatic to see a new release from Sylvester in May. This young adult novel has representation of a Peruvian-American teen with hip dysplasia who auditions to be a mermaid at the local theme park.

The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas

Young Adult- Releases September 6, 2022

A Mexican- inspired fantasy novel where semidioses compete in different challenges by the incredible author of Cemetery Boys.
